1) Don't advertise your weaknesses
Instead of pouring in buckets of effort into telling employers how great you are at everything and anything, be selective, and be honest with yourself:
'Am I really good enough at that to be able to qualify it as an asset?'
Weaknesses give you a chance to work hard in developing a strength from scratch, you've got more to talk about if you turned something on it's head instead of shrouding it with empty promises and tripping yourself up when it comes to delivering the goods.
2) Constantly think of yourself as a brand
Your instagram showcases your style of photography and the way your mind visually works, your twitter exposes your opinions and apparent day to day life, your Facebook displays a personal side of you that isn't actually meant for everyone and anyone.
You are now in a constant state of brand development, everything you broadcast on social media reveals something about you, so be thoughtful and consider your expressions.
3) Know your stuff
We know what your doing, we can see what your doing, anyone can understand what your doing: but why your doing it? That's something only you can say.
You want to know what everyone is talking about all the time, but you also want to be the person initiating new conversational topics - you want to be in and around 'the know'.
Prioritise the importance of research.
4) Don't discount working with new companies
New companies need you, and you need new companies, so, what are you waiting for?
Chances are, they're going to give you more of a break than most major brands will, so why not help out the little people and get involved. Smaller companies means smaller teams, and smaller teams means you can be far more in touch with the brand and its development.
Pick a smaller brand you really believe in, and your passion will aid their growth.
5) Immerse yourself in the industry
Attend events, go to exhibitions, read blogs, comment, interact, socialise, network.
Get that lovely little face of yours on the radar. Be that perceptive person so and so spoke to at the Saatchi, be the funny fellow that made whats her face laugh when she gave an honest opinion, be the effervescent soul who inspired thingy ma bob to shake up her style.
BE you and launch you into the industry.
